Field note
A home recovery drill script
Drills exist so the first restore you ever attempt is not the day something breaks. Use a spare device or a practice wallet when your hardware allows it. Never photograph seed material for “convenience.”
Timed outline (aim: under 40 minutes)
- 0–5 min Gather cable, device, and the recovery medium you intend to use. Start the stopwatch only when materials are on the desk.
- 5–15 min Enter the recovery flow per manufacturer docs. Note every unclear prompt in your log.
- 15–30 min Confirm the restored wallet shows expected empty or known watch-only state for your drill design. Stop if anything feels wrong — drills can be aborted.
- 30–40 min Wipe the practice state if appropriate, return materials, and write friction notes while memory is fresh.
After the drill
Schedule the next quarterly drill before you stand up. Cold Storage Cadence Lab Module 5 expands this outline with peer review of friction notes. Contact us if you want cohort dates. Reminder: Not Financial Advice.
